For the second year in a row, Gartner named IBM a Leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for 2021 Cloud Database Management Systems based on its Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. With emergence of a single cloud DBMS market, We believe our portfolio of feature-rich, enterprise-tested offerings, bold acquisitions, and partnerships enable our clients to address the unique needs of their business, respond to the growing volume, velocity and variety of today’s data and drive more accurate data driven decisions.
Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems
IBM Cloud offers choice, an extensive array of fully managed database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offerings that span the needs of every business, large or small, simple or complex. IBM’s extensive and ongoing investment in delivering rich AI capabilities via the Db2 database engine and our IBM Cloud Pak® for Data platform provides significant value to our clients. Inside the Db2 engine, we leverage an advanced ML (machine learning) optimizer to deliver faster query performance. Our fully secure and scalable Db2 managed services provide a secure, scalable data environment and a rich library of machine learning (ML) functions that our users can leverage to quickly generate and evaluate ML models and run predictions right inside the engine. Db2 also runs on IBM Cloud, AWS and Azure, independent of Cloud Pak for Data.
IBM’s Cloud Pak for Data represents a cohesive ecosystem with a broad range of data management capabilities including multiple DBMS offerings, data integration, analytics, data science, metadata, and governance. This platform simplifies administration and includes advanced governance and data privacy features to safeguard data while enhancing usage for analytics and AI. Cloud Pak for Data tools and capabilities are fully containerized and run-on Red Hat OpenShift enabling businesses to run their applications and workloads wherever they want, on whatever cloud.
It’s great to see Gartner recognize the value that our clients can leverage from Cloud Pak for Data offering, a transportable environment that can be deployed in the customer’s choice of public cloud, or on-premises in software or an appliance form factor. In addition to hosting IBM’s DBMS offerings (Db2, Netezza, Cloudant), Cloud Pak for Data also supports third-party database offerings like DataStax, MongoDB, Redis and others. Data virtualization is inclusive to the platform providing the connection of distributed data across a hybrid cloud landscape without moving it. IBM Cloud Pak for Data is designed to give customers choice of where to aggregate, store, manage and explore their data by enabling them to deploy IBM’s offerings on their vendors of choice.
At IBM our approach to hybrid cloud and AI is founded on the principle that there is no AI without information architecture; the integration of our database management system portfolio with our AI and hybrid cloud is the manifestation of this principle. Data is an integral element of today’s digital transformation. The connection of data across distributed landscapes, coupled with the use of active metadata, semantics and machine learning capabilities, is driving the future of Data Fabric as an emerging technology allowing organizations to better integrate and engage all of an organization’s data for better business outcomes.
